-Record-Journal, Meriden, Thursday, June Russell C. Smith, ran oil business MERIDEN Russell Clarke Smith, 83, of 54 Main South Meriden, husband of the late Mary Higginson Bates Smith, died Wednesday at Meridenlingford Hospital. He was born in and was a lifelong resident of South Meriden. He attended Me-' riden schools. Until his death, Smith was a self-employed oil dealer, having operated his business since 1929.

During World War he served with the naval aviation forces. Smith was a member of the South Meriden Trinity United Methodist Church and Post 45 of the American Legion. He is survived by a stepson, Harold Bates of South Meriden; a nephew, Edward Grimes Meriden, and a niece, Mrs. Thomas (Dorothy) Martin of Miami, Fla. The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m.

at the Flatow Home, 48 Cook with the Rev. John G. Wall, pastor of the South Meriden Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Grove. Gladys Z.

Coitrone MERIDEN Gladys Ziehler Coitrone, 74, of 20 Elmwood Drive, widow of John Coitrone, died Wednesday at World War II Veterans memorial Hopsital after a brief illness. Born in Meriden on March 13, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Margaret Caffrey Ziehler, and was a lifelong resident of Meriden. She was a parishioner of St. Rose Church and a member of the Meriden Grange and a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. Mrs.

Coitrone is survived by three sons, Henry F. Coitrone of Meriden, Ted Coitrone of Meriden and Robert C. Coitrone of Wallingford; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and an aunt, Mrs. Marie Fredrick of Meriden. She was predeceased by two sons, William and Thomas Coitrone.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main and at 10 a.m. at St.

Paddock 67, of 105 Collins husband of Marjo- rie Doyle Paddock, died suddenly Wednesday at Meriden-Wallingford Hospital. He was born April 28, 1915, in Meriden, a son of the late Charles Paddock Sr. and Alice Stanley Paddock, and was educated in the city school system. Paddock graduated from Meriden High School in 1932. For 30 years, he was an employee of Pratt Whitney Aircraft in Southington, retiring in 1980 as a general foreman.

He was a parishioner of St. Rose Church and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jane Petrucelli of Meriden and Mrs. Robert (Cynthia) Birdsey of Wallingford; three sons, Timothy S. Paddock, Kevin T.

Carl Grant of 525 Center St. was charged with possession and cultivation of marijuana after police responded to a medical emergency call from another apartment in his building.
