OBITUARIES SUNDAY, THE NEWS SEPTEMBER 1, OBSERVER 1996 SARAH T. KESLER ASHLAND VA. Mrs. Sarah Thomas Kesler, 76, wife of the Rev. R.

Harris Kesler, died on August 31, 1996. Mrs. Kesler was a native of Oxford, and was the daughter of the late Dr. William Nelson Thomas and Estelle Bullock Thomas. She was educated in the public schools of Oxford and attended the Mariorie Webster School in Washington D.C.

graduate of Greensboro College, Greensboro. She was married to Dr. Kesler on September 10, 1946. After a stay in New York while her husband was in graduate school, she and Dr. Kesler returned to Virginia where he was a clergy member of the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church.

In each of the communities where she lived Mrs. Kesler was actively involved in the religious, civic and social life of the area. Dr. Kesler's appointments took them to the following churches and communities in Virginia: the McKenney charge, McKenny, Main Street Church, Emporia, Duncan Memorial, Ashland, Main Street Church, Suffolk, Asbury Church, Harrisonburg, Epworth Church, Norfolk, Main Street Church, Waynesboro, First Church, Salem, Va. In 1984 Dr.

Kesler retired and he and Mrs. Kesler moved to Ashland to a home they had purchased there. At the time of her death sars. Kesler was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, the Woman's Club of Ashland, Ashland Garden Club, the Hanover Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Scotchtown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Jamestowne Society. She and her husband were vitally interested in Randolph-Macon College and were active in many of its affairs.

In addition to her husband, Kesler is survived by five nieces, Sallie Thomas Carmichael of Gainesville, Ga. Douglas Thomas Odom of Chapel Hill, Mary Thomas Firestone of Lafayette, Sandra Kesler Walker of Virginia Beach, Va. and Barbara Kesler Dudley of Arvada, Colo. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Rachel Poe Thomas of Oxford; and an Aunt, Mrs. Charles Goff of Virginia Beach, several great nieces, and nephews and a number of cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, Ashland, on Monday, September 2, 1996, at 2 p.m. The family suggests that memorials take the form of gift to RandolphMacon College or a charity of Choice. Interment of ashes will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Oxford, N.C. The family will receive friends at the Kesler Home in Ashland, Va. The Reid Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, graduate of Stradford College in Danville, Virginia and Duke School of Medicine as a Dosemetrist in Radiology.

She worked at Duke Hospital for 9 years, and at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte for 12 years. Surviving, in addition to her mother of Rocky Mount, sons and daughters-in-law, David and Connie Holloway of Charlotte, Joseph and Laura Holloway Jr. of Charlotte; daughter and son-in-law, JoAnna and Billy Keasler of Charlotte; granddaughter, Casey Nicole Holloway of Charlot sisters, Myrtle Deaver of Fayetteville, Jewel P. at the Piedmont Center in Thomasville. He was born March 4, 1924 in Gaston County, a son of Robert and Mildred Wilson Adams. A graduate of Catawba College with a B.S. degree in Education and received his Masters degree of Education from UNC-Chapel Hill. He was retired from Myrtle Desk after 36 years and the last 14 years served as president of Myrtle Desk, also chairman of the Board of Clarendon Ind.

A veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of High Point Rotary Club and Emerywood Baptist Church and former Sunday School teacher and served of the Financial Board. He had been an assistant football coach for University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill a football coach for Mt. Holly School and Roanoke Rapids High School during his younger years.

A trustee at Catawba College and served of the Board of Directors of High Point Regional Hospital, First Union National Bank, served of the Board at the United Way, served on the Advisory Board at High Point University and The Presbyterian Home. On June 6, 1949 he was married to Charlotte Hawkins. Surviving: his wife, Charlotte Hawkins Adams of the home; two sons, Harry B. (Ben) Jr. and his wife, Caryl and Thomas James Adams and his wife, Amy, both of High Point; one sister, Pat Kelso of Gastonia; two grandchildren, Drew and Charlotte Adams.

Memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Monday at Emerywood Baptist Church by Dr. James E. Baucom. Private graveside service will be held in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

OSCAR CASSIDY HORNER MONCURE Oscar C. Horner, 96, of Route 1, Moncure, died Saturday afternoon. He was a retired Livestock Dealer, and the oldest living member of Christian Chapel Christian Church. His funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Christian Chapel Christian Church.
