What fish are biting at Skyway Pier? ›

Some of the most popular species found while fishing at this pier include snook, tarpon, grouper, black sea bass, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, sheepshead, red snapper and pompano. Open 24 hours a day, visitors can enjoy stunning sunrise and sunsets every day of the year.

The first ¾ mile of the south pier is around 6-to 7-feet deep, where it then begins to gradually drop to 10- to 14-foot depths. It keeps dropping to 20-foot depths about a ½ mile from where the bridge makes a bend to the north.

Park Guidelines

The collection, destruction or disturbance of plants, animals or park property is prohibited. Pets are not permitted in this park. Fireworks and alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

Hi , You cannot fish from the bridge , but at each end they have a pier /part of the old bridge that you can fish from . Cost is $4.00 to park plus $2.00 per ( age 6-11 ) $4.00 ( 12 and up ) for fishing which includes the license for up to 24 hours .

Fishing Piers (Mobile) Florida residents fishing for saltwater species from the shore or from a structure fixed to shore are required to have a shoreline fishing license. The annual resident shoreline fishing license is now free (except for convenience fees that apply on telephone and Internet orders).

RFID installation and reloading lanes are also located at selected Skyway toll plazas. Cash is accepted only at South Skyway and some toll plazas of Stage 3. Class 3 vehicles are currently not permitted to use the Skyway, and trucks are banned on Stage 3 due to safety concerns.

Food and drinks are available for purchase. Pets are not allowed on the Skyway Fishing Piers. Restrooms are available.

You can't drink in a vehicle, or even carry an open bottle of alcohol. Boating in Florida is a different story. Not only is it OK to have beer aboard a boat, everyone can chug, even the captain. The only restriction on the operator of the boat: Don't exceed the blood-alcohol level considered to be legally drunk.

The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. You'll need to leave pups at home — dogs aren't allowed on this trail. This is a long fishing pier that spans Tampa Bay which creates an anglers paradise.

Inshore, Spanish mackerel, redfish, trout and flounder are biting for much of the year. These species, along with perhaps the most famous local catch - snook - can be found swimming near the beaches, in the Intracoastal Waterway, as well as in bayous, passes and bays.
