The max cape is a cape available to players who have attained at least level 99 in all 29 skills. It is sold by Max in Varrock and by Elen Anterth in the Max Guild for 2,871,000 coins. It has an emote which shows off the player's expertise in each skill, spawning the strange creature. When purchased, it comes along with a corresponding hood.
The minimum total level a player needs for max cape is 2,871. The minimum amount of experience required to wear this cape is 401,037,579.
Equipping the cape unlocks the Maxed [Name] title, which has the same requirements as the cape. This title can be used without wearing the cape once unlocked, and will re-lock when the cape is unable to be worn. The cape also offers a teleport to the Max Guild, and unlocks the Max guild teleport magic spell.

Appearance[edit | edit source]
Main article: Colour Customiser
The colours of a max cape can be customised by using the option in the right-click menu of the cape. In the Colour Customiser interface, players have the right-click option on the either of the four colour palettes to get or set a certain colour via the HSL colour algorithm (hue, saturation, and luminosity).
Abilities[edit | edit source]
The max cape has several unique abilities:
- It offers a teleport to the Max Guild by right clicking it, arriving next to the skill portals inside the guild garden, or right next to the Max Guild Bank and Grand Exchange.
- It has three perk slots that can be filled with Capes of Accomplishment by using them on it, as well as the functionality to view and remove existing perks.
Notes:
- Chatting with Elen Anterth provides an option to toggle the Max Cape teleport between the garden and within the tower.
- Players need to wear their max cape after (re)obtaining it in order for Elen Anterth to appear inside the tower.
- Talking to Lady Meilyr or a harmony pillar farmer after wearing the cape for the first time will award one each of the following perfect juju potions: agility, dungeoneering, farming, herblore, mining, prayer, smithing, and woodcutting.
- The cape does not need to be purchased in order to unlock the Max guild teleport spell, which is a free teleport to the max guild. It is one of the fastest bank teleports and the fastest Grand Exchange teleport in the game.
Skillcape perks[edit | edit source]
The max cape, completionist cape, trimmed completionist cape, and their master variants can hold up to three skillcapes. Since each skillcape has a perk, this gives access to up to three perks at a time, by using the respective capes on the max or completionist capes. Both regular and master skillcapes can be added, and a regular cape will not automatically upgrade to add the perk of a master cape (it needs to be replaced instead). The same perk cannot be added more than once. Adding a master cape after a regular cape of the same skill will upgrade the regular cape instead of using up a new slot. This effect is similar to the Skillcape rack in the Player Lodge on the northern edge of the Anachronia base camp, but requiring the player to wear a non-skillcape cape.
The selected perks are applied on any cape the player is wearing, including cape-slot items that are not actually capes. The exceptions are the Red cape and blue Soul wars capes while inside Soul Wars and capes that have their own perks (skillcapes, master skillcapes, and expert skillcapes), as their own respective perks take priority. If a player becomes ineligible to wear the max or completionist capes due to a new skill being released, the perks will stop applying until the cape can be worn again.
Since the perks are shared across all capes, the player cannot add different perks to the max and completionist capes, and if the player owns more than one of each they will all have the same set of perks. However, an expert skillcape (which can hold up to two skillcapes from their respective group of skills) may have different perks, which are only accessible when wearing that specific cape.
The cape used to grant the perk cannot be retrieved, which means that switching perks effectively costs 99,000 coins for a regular skillcape, and 120,000 coins for a master skillcape. For a list of perks see this listing.

Comparison with other capes[edit | edit source]
Main article: Comparison of combat capes
The Max cape is tied with the Completionist cape for having the second highest stats for an All-class cape, beaten only by the Igneous Kal-Zuk (although it lacks a life point bonus and provides a lower prayer bonus). It is a very well-rounded cape for combat, though the following capes provide higher individual bonuses than the Max cape with their respective stats:
- The Igneous Kal-Mej and TokHaar-Kal-Mej provide higher magic bonuses (43 and 33 vs 31).
- The Igneous Kal-Ket and TokHaar-Kal-Ket provide higher melee bonuses (43 and 33 vs 31).
- The Igneous Kal-Xil and TokHaar-Kal-Xil provide higher ranged bonuses (43 and 33 vs 31).
- The Igneous Kal-Mor and TokHaar-Kal-Mor provide higher necromancy bonuses (43 and 33 vs 31).
- The Superior reefwalker's cape and Reefwalker's cape provide higher life point bonuses (300 and 200 vs 100) and higher armour ratings (65 and 62 vs 44).
- The Dragon Rider cape and soul cape provide higher prayer bonuses (6 vs 5).

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The cape's emote used to be the longest emote in RuneScape, lasting 20 seconds, until the addition of the 15th Anniversary Dance emote.
- The emote can be performed even if the player has not done the quests The Temple at Senntisten for Turmoil, Mourning's End Part II for making death runes, Animal Magnetism for the blessed hatchet, Plague's End for the crystal pickaxe or the All Fired Up minigame for the Inferno adze; all of which are visible in the emote.
- The Max Guild teleport option appears even if the player has not completed Plague's End, in which case it is unusable.
- The emote is updated to incorporate every new skill as they are released. To date, Divination, Invention, Archaeology, and Necromancy have been released after the Max cape. However, the emote has not yet been updated to include Necromancy.
- After a player buys their first max cape, their Adventurer's Log reads:
For the first time after training all skills to level 99, I bought a max cape. - The cape features the first emote that temporarily creates NPCs for the purposes of the emote who can then be examined.
- When a player reaches level 99 in all skills, a message is broadcast across all servers: News: Player has just achieved at least level 99 in all skills!
- The check to see if the player had the requirements to buy and wear the cape previously relied on the required total levels. However, this check did not take into consideration that the Dungeoneering skill cap was higher than 99. This allowed some players to buy a Max Cape without being maxed by using Dungeoneering levels above 99 to count towards their total level. This was fixed very shortly after the bug was found.
- Upon performing the emote, it always makes the player character face east.
- As of 11 January 2024 there were 115,238 maxed players with a total level of 2871.
