A PLYMOUTH WOMAN. IF YOU HAVE THE MATTER OF PAUL MYERS, 19 YEAR OLD PAUL MEYER STOOD IN COURT ACCUSED OF CAUSING A CHAIN REACTION CRASH ON THE SAGAMORE BRIDGE FRIDAY NIGHT THAT KILLED 79 YEAR OLD MARTHA SHELDON OF PLYMOUTH. PROSECUTORS SAY WHEN TROOPERS ARRIVED ON SCENE, MYERS ADMITTED CAUSING THE CRASH, POINTED AT HIS OWN VEHICLE, A WHITE NISSAN SEDAN, AND STATED, I CAUSED IT. POLICE SAY MYERS WAS TRAVELING OFF CAPE WHEN HE TRIED TO PASS SHELDON’S CAR, BUMPING THE VEHICLE, CAUSING IT TO HIT A CURB AND CROSS OVER THE MEDIAN, AND WAS HIT BY ANOTHER CAR, KILLING SHELDON. SOON AFTER, MYERS WAS ARRESTED FOR OPERATING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS, TROOPERS OBSERVED A STRONG, FRESH ODOR OF MARIJUANA COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THEY OBSERVED MULTIPLE BURNT MARIJUANA BLUNTS ON THE DRIVER’S SIDE FLOORBOARD. TRAFFIC ON THE BRIDGE WAS TIED UP FOR HOURS FRIDAY NIGHT. THIS AFTERNOON, THE JUDGE SET BAIL AT $10,000 WITH THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS. SIR, YOU NEED TO SURRENDER YOUR PASSPORT. YOU’RE GOING TO BE DRUG FREE. WHICH INCLUDES MARIJUANA. YOU’RE GOING TO BE SCREENED AT LEAST TWO TIMES PER WEEK. AND THAT CAN BE DONE IN THE PLYMOUTH DISTRICT COURT. YOU’RE GOING TO RESIDE WITH YOUR SISTER, AND YOU MAY NOT DRIVE. LATE TODAY. Man, 19, charged in fatal OUI crash that killed woman on Sagamore Bridge
A young man faced charges Monday after he was accused of being under the influence of drugs in a crash on the Sagamore Bridge that left a woman dead.Paul Myers, 19, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, was driving on the bridge, which carries Route 6 over the Cape Cod Canal, Friday night when he crashed into a car. Myers was driving westbound in the left lane when he tried to pass a vehicle in front of him illegally by shifting into the right lane and crashing into a Toyota Corolla. Police said the impact caused the Corolla to hit the curb and spin across the median, crashing into a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.Prosecutors said Myers told responding Massachusetts State Police troopers that he caused the crash. "(Myers) pointed at his own vehicle, a white Nissan sedan, and stated, 'I caused it,'" prosecutor Brian Andrews said.Martha Sheldon, 79, a passenger in the Corolla, died as a result of the head-on collision, police said. The 83-year-old driver of the Corolla sustained serious injuries. Prosecutors said after the crash, Myers opened the door of his vehicle, and troopers could smell a strong marijuana odor coming from the car. "Troopers observed a strong, fresh odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. They observed multiple burnt marijuana blunts on the driver's side floorboard," Andrews said. Myers was released on $10,000 bail and ordered to surrender his Jamaican passport and remain drug-free. Myers is also not allowed to drive a vehicle. The other passenger in Sheldon's car remains in serious condition.
