The server cost for GW1 is likely a fraction of the cost for GW2.

  3. Thoughts about GW3 [Merged]

Ignavia.7420 replied to tzaeru.3742's topic in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I've tried starting a fresh, paid account in GW2 to experience some of the progression again to unlock gear, mounts, etc. I quickly went back to my main account, though, since it just provides so much better quality of life, due to various storage upgrades, and legendaries. Likewise, I cannot fathom starting completely anew in a GW2 successor MMO that wipes your progress. Nowadays, I do not have the time for endless grinds anymore, so I'd probably not make the transition. Naturally, I'd also heavily reduce my time and spending in GW2. Betting on the acquisition of a new player base to replace "veterans" seems like an extremely risky move. Now, if GW3 is mostly a polished & improved GW2 in a new engine and most of your stuff carries over, that seems great to me. Being able to hire new developers without having to train them in an in-house engine first should hopefully speed up future development.

  6. Demoting Purified Kryptis Essence to Amalgamated Kryptis Essence

Ignavia.7420 posted a topic in Secrets of the Obscure Discussion (Archived)

You craft Purified Kryptis Essence out of Amalgamated Kryptis Essence and a Mystic Clover. Purified Kryptis Essence is only needed for Astral Armor, however. Everything else, including the known components for Obsidian Armor, needs Amalgamated Kryptis Essence. I have accidentally crafted a couple of additional Purified Kryptis Essence, thinking these would be needed. Unfortunately, customer support was unable to help me in this case, since Purified Kryptis Essences progress an achievement. They probably meant A Legendary Path: Astral Gifts. Since I can imagine that others made or later might make a similar mistake (the names of the items are very similar, after all), I would propose that Lyhr (or some other vendor) sells 1 Amalgamated Kryptis Essence for 1 Purified Kryptis Essence. You still lose the clover in the process, but at least you don't lose hours of rift farming anymore.

  7. Rise and Shrine Achievement Bug?

Ignavia.7420 replied to Riverless.3571's topic in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

I have trouble with step 32 (race on minecarts): After getting to the 2. white circle on the snow, it just reverts to the start. Are you supposed to do multiple laps? If so, how many? I gave up after 12, which I'd already find quite ridiculous. Edit: Scratch that, actually, it continues below the start. I didn't pay attention to the height arrow and was confused by the "swirl" at the start that indicates it can be started again.

Correct. I have the Eagle Eye Mace skin unlocked, but that part of the collection is still open. Binding the weapon again did not help. It seems the trigger for the achievement is the skin unlocking, but that already happened.

Suggestion: Trading Post Options The default price when you buy an item is the lowest sell offer and the default price when you sell an item is the highest buy order. I usually end up doing the opposite, which is why I'd like to have the following options: Default to highest buy order when buyingDefault to lowest sell offer when sellingWhen you delete a buy order or sell offer you must always confirm this action. However, buying or selling something instantly doesn't require any confirmation even though it's irreversible. Because of this, I'd also enjoy the following options: Require confirmation when buying instantlyRequire confirmation when selling instantly

Ignavia.7420 replied to Cobra.6509's topic in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Yup, this seems to affect most if not all tiered repeatable achievements introduced with EoD. I completed "Not in This Neighborhood" for example after reaching the +2 AP cap already but the notification still claimed I gained more points. I did not pay attention to whether I actually got the points. But relogging definitely reduced the amount of AP I had.

  16. Pips for War Score Placement Punish Falling Back but Don't Reward Comebacks

Ignavia.7420 replied to Ignavia.7420's topic in World vs. World

Here's another example of what I'm on about: I just logged in and I'm greeted with these standings. No matter what I do, I'll always get 8 pips for the remainder of the skirmish. Likewise, the pip count is fixed for the other servers. The current tick (disregarding points for kills) of GH and AR is close at least, so using war score per tick would at least still provide some ongoing competition towards the end of a skirmish. Another way to think about the current system: The pips are determined by the war score gained during the current tick and all previous ones. This means that the war score from the first tick of a skirmish actually matters 24 times while the war score from the last tick only matters once.

  17. Pips for War Score Placement Punish Falling Back but Don't Reward Comebacks

Ignavia.7420 posted a topic in World vs. World

Based on the cumulative war score in the current skirmish, players get an extra 4-6 pips in the skirmish track each tick. Unfortunately, this system places an unhealthy emphasis on the first part of a skirmish, as shown in this beautiful illustration: If your world (red) builds a lead during the first half but starts slacking and drops to third place towards the end of the skirmish, you still get something near the maximum 144 bonus pips. On the other hand, if your world (blue) falls behind at first but then claws their way back to barely win the skirmish, you still get something close to the minimum 96 bonus pips. So, if world performance must have any effect on personal pip gain, using the war score gained in the current tick rather than the current skirmish would be a fairer metric. I believe, this would also help motivate players to always do their best since it rewards good performance at present instead of in the past. More controversially, I could also see merit in dropping the distinction based on performance altogether and awarding everyone a flat, say, +5 pips. This would discourage people from stacking servers (yes, alliances are also meant to eventually fix this). Crucially, it would no longer further discourage people from playing when they are losing. This already happens anyway, because you get less karma, experience, fewer bags, etc.

The phases at 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20% are fully deterministic. Only the attacks in between are random.

  20. Why do you expect so much from people in Dragon's End meta?!?! [Merged]

Ignavia.7420 replied to Zok.4956's topic in End of Dragons Discussion (Archived)

The mechanics of the fight can now at least no longer be griefed as badly as before, though it's still possible. The timer is really tight for an open world event, but whatever. The RNG, however, is just aggravating: The difference between getting the tail or a breakbar is insaneEven if you break the breakbar she can dash around or go otherwise invulnerableDuring the green circle phase the damage buff can be applied to the wrong people (e.g. support), wasting it almost completely. Meanwhile, you need to prepare the map, maintain your buff, run the escort phase, and spend overall around 2 hours per good try. And if you fail you get nothing? Marionette is already almost a dead meta because people find it difficult and there are no worthwhile rewards for the time invested. This boss is much harder, takes much longer, and rewards even less. Good luck finding people for this once they either got the turtle or the turtle can be acquired through alternate means. This is really unfortunate, since a lot of work and love has clearly gone into this map and its meta event. Edit: I just did another run, which will be my last until this is fixed. We had two tails from 80-60%, with a breakbar while the tail was up and another breakbar at 62% (super useful). From 40-20% we had no breakbars, but three tails, while the boss kept changing side when the tail was not up. I'm all for some difficult content, even in the open world, but this is completely unfair.

  21. Dragon's End: Reduce Phase Timer for Each Wisp that Returns

Ignavia.7420 replied to Ignavia.7420's topic in End of Dragons Discussion (Archived)

That would also work. You seem to already get a damage buff when you get back to the platform currently. But it starts immediately on returning and last only about 30 seconds. This would need to be extended until the boss actually arrives again.

  22. Dragon's End: Reduce Phase Timer for Each Wisp that Returns

Ignavia.7420 posted a topic in End of Dragons Discussion (Archived)

Currently, the wisp phases in the Dragon's End meta can be ended early if all wisps make it back to the platform. There are a few problems with this in my opinion: First, this incentivizes players to skip the mechanic altogether and have as few people as possible go into the green circles - the more people go in, the higher the chance of failure.Second, a single player that does not pay attention to map chat and goes into the green circles as telegraphed by the game can screw over the entire map.Third, there is an achievement to get turned into a wisp and return without being hit. If people want to go for this achievement, they will again be faced by the wrath of everyone who wants to succeed with the meta to get their turtle. To solve this, I suggest to get rid of the mechanic that the timer until the boss returns ends early once everyone made it back. Instead, I propose to reduce the phase timer by a few seconds for each wisp that makes it back successfully; maybe even double the reduction for each wisp that did not get hit on its way back. This encourages players to cover each green circle, so as many as possible are turned into wisps. It would also more heavily reward good personal play, rather than drastically punish bad play.
