But shopping as a trans woman isn’t a walk in the park. There’s so much we have to consider such as a store’s bathroom policy and fitting room policy.

But you don’t have to go through this alone. As your big sister, I’ll recommend 8 great transgender-friendly stores for you. 9 times out of 10, I’ve had a great experience with these stores. And I promise you’ll have a great shopping spree with them as well.

Why Shop at Transgender-Friendly Stores?

I remember the first time I went out shopping as a trans woman. I was about 3 months into my transition and I still had a few touch-ups to do before hacking my feminine look.

That time, I was so scared to walk into any store because all I could think of was ‘What if they won’t let me change in the women’s fitting room.’ ‘What if someone looks at me badly.’ And ‘What if I get chased out of the store.’

Long story short, I was so scared. And honestly, the fear and anxiety took away the fun of shopping for me.

As a trans person, you’ve probably gone through the same thing. But luckily, the world is becoming more inclusive and there are many transgender-friendly stores.

There was one time I was passing by the store on my way home and I ended up walking in and restocking my beauty products in the middle of the month.

And all this was because of how amazing it smelled. I just wanted to buy everything. Lush is very trans and LGBTQ- friendly and in 2020, they even launched a ‘Gay is OK’ soap.

They went ahead to donate 100% of the money to support trans people who were affected by the ridiculous ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law that was passed in Florida.

I remember the first time I shopped at Torrid, specifically the California store, I was surprised by how professional the staff was. I was still transitioning to a trans woman and without any questions, they helped me find the right lingerie size for me.

No one made any awkward comments when I asked to use the fitting rooms. And even when I paid with my card (showing my male name) no one said anything that made me feel uncomfortable.

Target

Did you know that Targetwas one of the first transgender-friendly stores in the U.S.?

Just a few years ago, they were trending because of their transgender-inclusive bathroom policy. While this news annoyed some customers, it was a major win for the LGBTQ+ community.
